The following main questions are characterising this project: -Which additional costs will arise for debarking during harvesting in the stand for forest owners and harvesting entrepreneurs? -Does the extra process of debarking in the stand influence the following processes along the whole supply chain? -Does debarking represent an additional option for controlling bark beetle attacks? -What are the effects of debarking on the suitability of bark beetle breeding? Material and methods to be used within this project: -Detailed process analysis of harvesting activities combined with cost calculations -Capturing the amount of remaining bark on debarked logs -Assessment of breeding suitability for bark beetles of debarked logs -Valuation of additional costs for debarking including potential losses due to debarking
