Abstract englisch

Although drugs in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) from plant and animal sources are recognized 25 valuable für therapies there is a need for quality control, safety assessment and pharmacological evaluation to profe safety and efficacy. The identification of active compounds and their molecular mechanism an drug targets is important. State-of-the-art analytical methods, such as mass spectrometry and HPLC, are highly useful tools for elucidation and standardization of TCM drugs. In this project the aim of the analyses was to evaluate TCM drugs an efficacy, therapeutical quality and modernization. In the fist part we summarized the influences of different treatments like paozhi processing an Chinese herbal medicines (part 1). In the following parts efficacy and therapeutical quality af Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) were investigated. Thereby, extracts from CHMs were tested an drug targets involved in metabolic disorders and inflammatian. Selected bioactive extracts were further investigated für active compounds (part 2, part 3). In the final part the results an the modernization of a Chinese herbal formulation are described (part 4). In conclusion, this project encompassed studies which provided evidence based research of safety, efficacy and therapeutical quality as well as modernization of TCM drugs/preparations. The research project resulted in 4 publications that were published in top 25% journals (lF 2.4- 33.61 — see Science 2015) and further publications, that are submitted (manuscript of part 3) or in preparation.
