| In view of the growing importance of succession planning for Austria as a business location, a new survey of the current situation and future developments in succession planning is to be launched, following on from the studies on “Business transfers and succession in Austria” already conducted in 2014, 2019 and 2021 (only updated potential estimates).
The study will build on the previous studies and thus also enable longitudinal comparisons for relevant indicators of succession, such as the development of the number of transfers, types of transfers, motives, transfer process, promoting and inhibiting factors, as well as evaluation of the transfer and possible errors or success factors. The topic of financing was selected as the focus chapter. The study will make it possible to distinguish between different forms of business succession (within the family versus outside the family). Future succession events will also be examined and a quantitative assessment of the transfer potential for the next 5-10 years will be carried out. Based on the analyses, recommendations for measures to support business succession will be derived, also taking into account the succession strategy of the Young Economy from 2024. |
